em chiaroscuro

Hello all,

em chiaroscuro is the first product I own from Michelle Phan beauty collection called em.

I heard many good reviews regarding her highlight and contour kit in one and finally have the chance to try one when it is on sale. The product comes in four shade where the fair and light is almost always sold out. I want to get the fair but when light is all I can get then I'll take it.

I think the shade is a bit too dark for me, a fair would be more perfect. I don't mind using the contouring side but the highlight won't be noticeable.

Below are the swatches.

The lighter and shiny one is the highlighter and the dark with matte finish is the contouring side.

The product feels light on the skin, both of them are wonderful in terms of texture. Blending them is not a problem at all and can be done using fingers.

Of course in contouring and highlighting, there's no one size fits all method, by paying attention to our own bone structure and skin condition we can tell how and where it need to be contoured and highlighted.

For me, I'm always apply the contouring side before the highlights. And blend the highlights first before the contoured.

I'm applying them after the whole skincare is done and liquid base makeup is applied, right before loose powder and color makeups.

But the product itself can be applied at the last step of base and right before color makeup since it blends nicely on the skin, do a gentle movement during blending for a softer and better finish.

Above is my first time trying to use chiaroscuro and the more I use them, the more I get used to it and understand the product better. And even thou the highlights doesn't seem fair enough, during picture time, it shows a better reaction to the camera and lights. While the contoured area are more dimmed and doesn't have that 'radiant'.

Below are the images of me with makeup on and of course after using chiaroscuro.

Notices the radiant skin under the eyes and on the nose bridge?!

Below is another image when I use chiaroscuro. Like it gives the skin a watery glow, so pretty!

And below when I use other product for contouring and highlighting (both powder).

Noticed the differences?

There are areas that are differ in tone but not as radiant and matte as when using chiaroscuro.

There you go, my review on using em chiaroscuro, a product from em that I think do get her reputation right, raved.

Easy to be applied, blended and show wonderful result of a deeper and matte contoured area with a lighter and radiant highlights.
