Microblading alias Sulam Alis

around 2 months ago, I went for a microblading aka sulam alis. In Indonesia, sulam alis is a huge thing and in this post, I'll show you what is this sulam alis or microblading or microshading, or mist powder or 6D, 4D, whatever D it is.

Long time ago, moms are raving the eyebrow tattoo, and it stick to them like for life. It's densely thick and visible from kilometers away. It is THAT thick. Nowadays, people are so into embroidery and it's a huge thing in Asia. Perhaps since Asian has thinner brow, we are not as hairy as our sister  with different hormones and genetics background, so we need help in terms of those hair on the brows, well not just brows, lashes too and so on. But we never feel envy with the hairs on the armpit :D

Now back to this embroidery for the brow that also known as microblading because if the technique and blade used. So the more the D the more lines are made, so it's becoming more like the real thing. Still, it all depends on the ability and how the artist do your brow.  Nevertheless, everything started like shown above, numbing cream. All good professional brow artist should always cleans and numbs the area in the right time. As numbing cream works around 20 minutes, if you stroke them too fats the pain is still there, and if it's too long the numbing cream doesn't have their magic power anymore. So make sure when you do yours, the artist really set the time right.

And then the artist will draw the outline and ask you whether you're happy with the design. There are tons of shapes and designs and it all depends on your preference to face shape and colors too. There's tone to choose, the availability of the tones also depends on where you did your eyebrow, there are famous ones that have wide variety of shades while some only have very few options.

The finishing of the brow also differ, strokes only like microblading or the ones that looks like you did your brow using pencils, this is called microshading or mist, brow, etc that are similar to makeup but it last. These embroidery thingy doesn't stay as long as tattoos but it last for a few years. Perfect for someone who wasn't really committed but wants something that doesn't need daily routine as much as using the whole makeup, well it helps reducing by 5 minutes :D

 The process for me started from choosing the right artist, from the locations, their pricing, and the most important matter, the portfolios. I need those the most. And I'm not recommending mine since she is not really in the friendly zone, but I love her work in the instagram. I prefer someone that can answer all 1001 questions of mine, since I'm new at this, I concern about my health, I want to know more about her technique, hygiene and so on. So I do have my right and she doesn't seems to be happy answering all my questions. 

Still, I love her work and finally we have some schedule I could fit in. The location is quite near my home, when I was there she have a studio on her own. All the blades used are new and she said everything is cleaned properly and she is focusing on the cleanliness and design of the brow. I ask for a fuller look but she said that this is better and if I still want to have a fuller one, it can be done during the touch up. So like most services I know, there's a free touch up and should be done within 3 months upon the first appointment.

(2 days after the embroidery)

The process is a breeze, I don't feel any pain during the procedure and the numbing cream is applied twice. The first time during the first strokes and the second ones right before the second strokes. Since I asked for a micromix (blading and shading) in gradation, so the inner brows are lines like hairs and towards the outer is fine dots like pencils.

During the first day all the way until the 5th day, I didn't let water touch the brows, not even cleaning, just these lotion cream given by the artist, and I bought a few more just in case I needed more. Which I did, I use them diligently, like every 5 hours. It helps to soothe the skin, calms and helps the healing process too. It's a special cream made for eyebrow 'tattoo'.

After 5 days are over, I can take a shower like normal people do and let the water run through the brows, it feels good to be cleaned. There are stiffness and I was told to never pull them off. Let them peel all by themselves. So there are times where the brows looks like they are a bit mess, parts that are flakes off and parts that aren't.

But worry not, they all will come off and leave this natural like brow that you somewhat dream off...why do I say that? That because I want a thicker and fuller brow, which the artist insisted she will done it later during the free touch up, ouch.

Does that means I can't play with my brows? Surely can. I can still color, use mascara, or do anything I want, even though the artist said that it will reduce the longevity of the brows. But how long do they actually last? Not forever for sure, these microblading eyebrows last around 2-3 years, and if I want to get the touch up promo which cost half of the full price, I need to get them done every year, that is still pricey for being high maintenance.

After around 6 weeks (because I read that the best time to get the touch up is actually 6 weeks after the first one was done. The wound has completely healed and it's settled. So if there anything to be corrected or done more is after these 6 months.

The procedure is the same, cleaning, drawing, and making. This time, I insist on getting mine fuller and thicker too.

Do I get what I want? Almost. It looks really thick and fulfilling at first, but after they peeled off, they look slimmer. Not as slim as before, but not as thick as I want it too.

Even though the procedure is the same, somehow, it is more painful than the first, like the numbing cream doesn't work on the first application. Tears almost came down that day, but somehow, during the second application after the second numbing product is applied, no more pain is felt, thank God!

The peeling, healing and everything I have to go through is the same as the first. No water for the first 5 days, only the lotion given applied two time per day this time, and days went on smoothly. A few accidents does happened during healing process, my little girl scratches my eyebrow when they are not peeled yet and it felt painful. I don't know whether it leaves a mark or not since most of them still covered with the inks.

In the end, everything does become well, I do still wish for a fuller brows, perhaps next time, or next year.

Now here's some of my tips for conclusions:
1. Get the right artist that you know will do a good job for you, it's your money, you decide. The price is varied from place to place and how they do they work, find one that you really like. It's okay to ask around and ask tons of questions.
2. Prepare yourself, there's still be pain. But not overwhelming ones.
3. Don't come when you're sensitive, like PMS, sick or unwell, or when something bad just happened and your emotionally not stable and could not make a fair judgement.
4. Bring a book, magazine, or a good data plan to help the time goes by.
5. Bring drinks and food if needed, 2 hours is kinda long.
6. Listen to your artist and don't get the brows wet or other things touching it for at least 5 days. No sauna excessive workouts, swimming (for sure), peeling, rubbing, or scratching the area.
7. The eyebrow will fully heal approximately 6 weeks, do a touch up after 6 weeks.

Oya Clinic Body Shaping Treatment

a few days ago, I went to Oya Clinic again, and this time it's for their Body Shaping Treatment.

The treatment is emphasizing on burning the fats, loosen the cellulite, stimulating the muscle, firming, and yes, in shorts, slimming too. So it's like an all in one treatment for someone ... like me.

Being a mom of two, travels a lot, loves food, and a full time beauty blogger too, means I do have less time to pamper myself and sometime exercise too. Who am I kidding, I rarely exercise, if chasing a two years old inside a mall is called an exercise and that's all I get. I do try to have a more active lifestyle like walks (when traveling), going trough more stairs than needed, or anything in a category of body movement, I do try, but reserving myself into a gym is never an option. Time is the number one issue, hence a treatment like this, could again be my best option. Within around 90-120 minutes a few cm can be lost and feels like I spend a day working out.

As seen on these images, my treatment is focusing on one area, the belly. It has fat and cellulite.....plus stretchmarks too. As different part connected to different section, each part are linked to the machine and the therapist can easily turn the level up or down. At the beginning, we can all start from the lowest level and then in the next 10 minutes and so, the therapist will come back and increase, adjusting to our comfort level. I can feel the muscle tightening and feels like having spasm. It was not painful at all.

For me, Body Shaping treatment involves many different techniques and does visibly help shaping the body. The first section that involves sucking and heat was not really comfortable for me, it felt pain but not completely painful, perhaps since I do came during my period. Turns out, it was not advisable nor recommended by Oya Clinic to do one during a period since the skin is far more sensitive. I'll do take a note and will come on other time for my next visit.

As seen below, the area become red and there's a few marks. They all subsiding within a day and the mark is reduced on the next day, and it'll be gone on the second day after the treatment.

The best part is, I loss 3 cm within a single treatment and the doctor at Oya Clinic told me that the treatment doesn't stop there, it'll keep firming, reducing body fat and strengthening the muscle for the next couple of days. So there's a continuous effects. I know for sure and like mentioned above, it need efforts too for a better improvements. Better diets and exercise helps, so they all works simultaneously with the treatment. It made maximum impact.

As for me and my always on the go lifestyle, this shall do for now. A treatment that less than 2 hours which helps me getting on that a one size smaller dress perfect for an event in the weekend.

JPP Skin Laser Clinic with Avene

yesterday, I went to JPP Skin Laser Clinic to try on one of their signature treatment. The location of the clinic is at Central Park Mall lower ground area.

The place is near every other beauty treatments on that same floor.

JPP itself has 5 clinics in Jakarta, from Emporium Mall, Kota Kasablanca, Lippo Mal Kemang, Mal Kelapa Gading, and here, Central Park Mall in west Jakarta.

The clinic has a white luxurious minimalist design, sleek and looks pretty with a dash of red.

On the right side near the entrance, there's a place specially reserved for Avene.

The treatment today will be Avene with non-invansive laser treatment for me. The name of the treatment is Laser & Light Skin Rejuvenation.

The first thing need to be done before the treatment start is that the therapist ask me some questions and there's consultation time where they explained everything from how safe it is, no downtime, fast, and what I'll experience during the treatment. It was pretty clear and they explain everything well, hence anyone who come can rest assured that the staffs will deliberate all the necessary information regarding the treatment.

There are several treatment you can choose in the clinic, and they also have invasive treatment for those who have scar issues or other problems, so do consult with the doctors first before proceeding Appointment also needed to make sure the efficiency of everyone's time.

After all the details are passed, they let me in and I have my own bed. My skin was cleansed using products from Avene before the procedure is done. The therapist repeatedly commented on my acne, yes, that one acne that happen to emerge during my PMS and she made a huge deal out of it on how I needed the whole Avene Cleanance set for that one acne.

Friends, one acne during one time of a month doesn't meant you have acne prone skin, so if someone suggest or insist you have a certain type of skin when it is not your everyday problem, don't listen to them.

The way the therapist kept focusing on that one acne made me feel very uncomfortable, I hope they can improve on that part.

Nevertheless, the rest of the treatment went well, the doctor is very kind and gentle, she hears me when I said I can't really tolerate paint and she reduce the level for the laser, which made the laser
treatment comfortable.

The light treatment is done by that same therapist again and she still doesn't leave my acne alone. And even after I said my skin is really dry, she is focusing on that one single acne (frustrating, I know), and in the end when the light therapy is done, she only want to give me sunscreen, without any moisturizer, when I ask for a moisturizer, she asked the doctor first, when the doctor said yes, she then gave me some (oh dear).

I wish the therapist could be a bit more sensitive and observing, she can learn it from the doctor on how to deal with clients and how to appear more caring to their needs instead of ehm, selling the products.

Avene itself is a brand with products that doesn't really need to be advertise thanks to it's quality, linked to the treatment, Avene products calmed the skin immediately and the spray helps cools down the skin too.

Overall, was it a good experience, hmm, the laser and light treatment itself is good and the doctor is very nice, there are rooms for improvements for the therapist.

Laser treatment has become a huge trend in Jakarta and the world too, it give people faster results and visible too. So there's a lot of competition there and customers will surely choose the ones that best for them in terms of budget, quality and experience.

Hair Treatment at Hair Lounge by Ryoji Sakate

Hello lovelies,

my hair was dyed around a month ago, since then I have to constantly color my hair since I'm using hair colorant that are not permanent. They are acid and known to made the hair condition better with nutrients and vitamins. However the color only last for around 1-2 weeks.

So, I'm back to Ryoji Sakate and have my hair manicured plus I'm getting a hair treatment too, known to make my super dry hair smooth, shines and so soft.

Using L'Oreal Nuancelle in Purple, the whole process took around 60-90 minutes from washing, application and waiting time plus drying too. The hair treatment only took less than 15 minutes where the product is used less than a minute with a result I love.

It was amazing, like my hair is healthy again. I can't really comb my hair since being bleached, now, I can use the finest brush and no tangle could be found. And the shine? Irresistible.

Oya Clinic Relaxing Treatment

Hello lovelies,

some time ago, like perhaps, almost 6-9 months :D I was invited by Oya Clinic for an event at one of the most prestigious location in the town.

As usual, Oya Clinic is presenting their most proud treatments which I yet to try. Ulthera and their famous face and body shaping treatments.

On the event, they also share a bit about Oya's backgrounds and all the breakthrough they've made.

One of their patented item is the sticky gel-like brown creams that are used during the treatment. A special formula created by Oya.

A live demo of face shaping is shown during the event and all the guess can freely ask or even try a bit.

It was a brief but concluded presentation, I think everyone get the idea of how the treatment works. I've also tried their facial shaping and enjoying every little bit of it. Their treatments are comfortable and doesn't involve pain.

After the event, I'm given a voucher to try their Relaxing Treatment, which I just had today heehee. Yes, I've been really busy and postponing pleasure.

The treatment took around 60 minutes. Start with cleansing, scrub, and then they use this metal thingy that 'collect' dead skin cells and things that can be obtain like white heads, they found quite a lot around the nose. The procedure is not as painful as extraction but the pointy areas does feel a bit, like scrapping the skin.

Continue with the massage, which I think worth every minute of it and so relaxing. I'm kinda addicted to the massage and would love going back for the massage alone. The technique itself is superb.

Followed by a mask, a usual paper mask that we seen a lot in the market that helps hydration.

After 20 minutes of using the mask, the skin is prep with moisturizer and sun protection.

Thank you so much Oya Clinic, this is one of the best facial I've had in years. My skin feels and looks so clean and the massage given by the therapist is spot on. Ease out all the stresses away.

Ramadan Festival with The Body Shop

In Indonesia, one of the most anticipated time of the year is during Ramadan. It's when Moslem begin the month of fasting, embrace their closeness to God, family and with The Body Shop, to the nature as well.

Arrived at the event, The Body Shop Indonesia has prepared us to a unique and one of a kind event where everyone get to know about their program and festivity. There are 4 stations in total and I started my journey in the gift station.

Who doesn't like gifts?! And who doesn't like gifts from The Body Shop?! Beautifully wrapped to the occasion, filled with products that not just smell good but suitable for almost everyone. We can simply choose one for the men, one for the moms, one for the kids, one for those in love, one for beauty addicts and makeup lover, one for the home, and one for just about anyone. Everyone can find something they like from The Body Shop.

One thing about The Body Shop is that they always progressing, making and creating new ideas and bringing new items to the table. Their seasonal packaging also a delight, you could find one accordingly, like this Ramadan Festival, the decorations and design are a match.

In this station, we have a chance to win a goodies for someone that we thought would need or we just want to share some happiness with. I wrote one for my mom, after having 2 of my own and she has 4, I applaud her for being so patience and 'survived' haha! It is not easy definitely but she made it. I love her, I rarely say that to her, but she does amazed me sometime, and she deserved pampering. She has dedicated her time for her family, it is not an easy sacrifice, remember that no one is born to do a chore, it's ones willingness to do so. So please do give your mom a big hug and a huge appreciation.

The next station is the Makeup Station filled with their current focus, the eyeliners!! They comes in colorful shades and in duo packaging. One eyeliner with two ends. One in darker shade and the other in lighter, it is made to be used together or as your heart pleases.

I'm using the one in blue and white, instantly brightens my eyes and made them pop.

There are pencil highlighter for the eyebrows too, it helps accentuating and made the arch more define.

The best part about this station is we get to play our own or ask the BA to give us a hand. She is more than willing in giving tips and how to's.

Station number three is skincare!!! Hooray!! So happy to be here! I'm in my zone.

And aside from all the irresistible skincare and their lovely texture, these greenies are my favorite. The aroma is green and calming, suitable for all skin type including men too, light, watery and promote hydration and anti aging at the same time.

Bringing two new products on the table, the moisturizer and one item that seems to be the trend now. A liquid that is made to be used after the toner and before serum or even before pre serum.

It comes in a gel that melts on the skin instantly. I want it so bad!!!

Nowadays skincare has gotten more serious, seriously gooodddd. Say good bye to heavy rich and greasy texture, everyone is embracing light, watery and gel formula that satisfying to all skin type.

And we made it to the final station, station number 4.

In each station we were given coins to collect and after that, the ones with the most coins will get prizes, wow! I'm keen to collect and the program itself is spot on. We get to learn, experiment and for once having a great time while embracing our nature. The Body Shop will never forget to make us see the difference we can make together. Either the Community Trade, charity programs to the daily commitment. Once again, in this event, we ought to write down things that we want to do for the environment.

I wrote some of the visible things I can do, from reduce waste/trash, use less plastic, use ingredients or material that doesn't do harm to the environment and be more friendlier to just about anyone. Hopes that cools down the temperature >.<.

Why 'Sedekah Pohon'? In this occasion, The Body Shop Indonesia wishes to grow more trees in as the natural barrier of our island. Jakarta itself sunk 0,5 cm each year and in the future, we are no longer under the seasonal flooding but we will be going here and there using a boat. It is pretty in Venice and Amsterdam, but are we ready to spend tax money to keep the island float? Or we can start now by planting more mangrove.

PPP Laser Clinic Special Treatment

Hello everybody,

this is my first post for PPP Laser Clinic. A place where all laser treatments and others are possible (all facial).

They are currently have many branches in Jakarta and one is at Lippo Puri Mall.

The design is clean, white and blue details. Everything is written clearly on their walls and we can ask some questions at the front desk staff.

They have several treatments and the ones I'm trying (and will be trying) are 2x Special Treatment, 7x Laser & Light Cleansing System (LLCS), and 1x PPP Combo (Micro Laser + Warm Touch + LLCS).

This post is for my first visit and trying their Special Treatment.

Everything looks fine in front but inside was kinda a bummer. They don't have rooms like most clinics that I've visited, between one client and another are curtains. The bed is in super single size and the space is tiny. We can literally reach the other person's hand when we reach out to each other. Or at least close enough.

The consultation is a 1-2 minutes brief but doesn't really listen or look at the patient's client's needs, I've told the doctor that my pain tolerance are pretty low and I don't need nor want instant result, and they still put the laser on medium instead of low like I asked her to. The doctors insisted on maximum impact.

It was definitely not not painful, so there are pain involved, like tiny ants biting on my skin, or tiny needles touching the skin. And the heat on some areas are really uncomfortable.

I've tried laser treatments at other clinics and has been doing this laser treatments for years since 2010 in Singapore, and so far, PPP Laser Clinic gave me the most pain. And talking about pain, on my next post I'll share about PPP Combo which hurt me the most and made my skin so red (read it on my next posts ya).

I though Special Treatment was quite unique. It is definitely not as painful as the Combo, but during LLCS it is. LLCS is given on each treatment. When the laser is 'shoot' on me, it was the one that I said has many needles touching the skin, or like ants biting on the skin.

There's heat as well, but during Special Treatment, a roller is massaged on the skin using a cream as the 'lubricant', this one is my favorite part as it helps slimming and firming my chin.

Above is me, when arrived at the clinic, still looking so naive, don't know what do I get myself into.

Below is me inside the 'curtain cells', first our skin is being cleaned from everything that might 'bother' the laser or the treatments.

When the skin is completely cleaned by using a cleansing cream and foaming facial wash, a white cream is applied with a roller like tool that breaks fat, tone and firming the area it touches. The white cream itself said to contain collagen.

I asked the staff to put attention on my chin are I hate to have double chin and wants a firmer jawline.

This treatment is comfortable and I have nothing against it.

Right after it, my eyes are closed for the laser treatment and Light Cleaning System where the red lights are bombarded (it involves no pain whatsoever but different doctor different method I suppose, the doctor during my first visit doesn't involve touching my skin at all during the Light Cleaning System while the second one kept 'bumping' the tool on my skin during the Light Cleansing System).

During LLCS since my eyes are closed, no photos could be taken, I told the staff to please help me took pictures, she said yes, and then disappear into thin air and no where to be seen. So sorry for no images where taken during LLCS.

How about my feeling during LLCS, when the laser is 'applied' it has pain and heat (not warm, heat) felt on the skin, but that's it. When the doctor is done, I don't feel pain anymore. No redness nor discomfort, except for a few bumbs on my forehead and chin area that disappear after a night. The doctor already warned me about this and she said it is alright and no special treatment is needed.

What made me feel odd is that, in other clinics, I was told to avoid sun light, warm water, exercise, or any other treatment, some even said to be for a full week after. In PPP, they don't put any 'warning' on after care. Just advice on using s good sunscreen and avoid night cream that promote exfoliating, and that's it.

Conclusion on PPP Laser Clinic Special Treatment:

A quick treatment that only involve 20-30 minutes of my time from cleansing to therapy. It was fast and definitely suitable for those looking for instant or immediate effects on their skin. At least it is far more faster than using skincare or other method that I know (non surgical). Clients can see result within days or even hours (depends on the skin's condition). Those who have low pain tolerance should insist on lowering the energy of the laser, especially those who have very sensitive and dry skin. Even though the laser treatment eventually help the skin's condition but the process of getting there should be convenience too. 

Tips from me, bring your own moisturizer, since the one given by them is only suitable for normal to oily skin type with low sunscreen (SPF 15), so do bring your own skincare from toner, serum and moisturizer that promote hydration, moisturizing mask will also be good to be used right after the treatment. And never forget to use a very good and high protection sunblocks every day whenever the time says morning, day and before sun rise. Remember that removing your dark spots is PAINFUL, so it is best to prevent one.

Will I come back here? Definitely, I want another Special Treatment please and still want to see how my skin will turn out after the whole process is done.
